1. Can you describe a recent commissioning project for a material handling equipment solution involving sorters, conveyors, MDRs where you worked with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Wonderware Aveva Edge HMI or other HMI? What were the key challenges, and how did you address them—especially in high-throughput environments?
2. Which Allen-Bradley PLC platforms and Wonderware Aveva Edge HMI or other HMI features have you used to support sortation systems, conveyors, or automated labeling in post and parcel operations? How were they applied during commissioning?
3. How do you typically approach troubleshooting during commissioning when unexpected behavior occurs in PLC-controlled sortation or scanning systems?
4. Can you walk us through your I/O validation and system readiness process for a material handling project in a parcel distribution center? How do you ensure minimal disruption to live operations?
5. What safety protocols and documentation practices do you follow when commissioning controls and HMI systems in automated post and parcel environments—especially when working around live conveyors or robotic systems?
Role Summary: • The PLC Controls Engineer II commissions and tests automated material handling equipment with high-speed sortation, scanning and merging applications. • This role is responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of all controls project elements throughout the project lifecycle. • The engineer takes full ownership of the controls scope, managing budget, schedule, and resources, and applies a systems-level approach to understand and manage core design features, electrical architecture, and project dependencies. • This includes coordinating and forecasting electrical engineering resources, both in-house and on-site, and maintaining alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities: • Lead the technical implementation of electrical controls systems, including PLC programming and commissioning. • Manage project scope, quality and deliverables ensuring alignment with customer expectations. • Collaborate and work with other Project Engineers as needed. • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including QA/QC validations and test plans. • Execute and support system testing (BUAT/UAT/FAT) and on-site commissioning. • Provide customer training and post-installation support. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
