Job Description
The School Accounting and Controls leader will oversee our regional accounting function and will serve as a key leader of the US Shared Services Finance team whose purpose it is to: 
•    Perform Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and General ledger transactions from a Centre of Excellence
•    Business Partner to Deliver Operating Plan & Long-Term Financial Commitments 
•    Drive Culture Ensuring Robust Internal Controls & Accuracy of Financial Results  
•    Provide Reliable Forecasting, Predictability, Insights & Analytics 
•    Promote Strong Cross Functional Collaboration  
•    Improve Financial Systems & Processes

Job Responsibilities
•    Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
•    Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure accurate classification of accounts.
•    Reconcile complex accounts and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
•    Collaborate with auditors to support external audit processes.
•    Assist in the preparation of financial statements and notes to the accounts.
•    Review journal entries and ensure proper documentation and approval.
•    Work closely with other departments to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
•    Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
Manages and provides leadership and mentorship to a team of accounting professionals
•    Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
•    Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the financial services department.
•    Identify training and development needs and provide opportunities for professional growth.
Responsible for Monthly & Quarterly Close Process 
•    Responsibility for preparation and filing of all centrally managed statutory accounts.
•    Responsibility of managing team reviewing monthly and quarterly journal entries for all 11 US schools. 
•    Responsibility for review and integrity of business unit (school) statutory accounts.
•    Responsibility for the accounting of any holding or dormant companies
•    Leading on Opening Balance sheet work with new acquisitions.
•    Analysis of month end balance sheet identifying reasons for movements and variances to budget/forecast. 
Responsible for Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable teams 
•    Responsibilities for managing the team recording accounts receivable journal entries for 11 schools.
•    Responsibilities for the team managing the accounts payable process, making payments to suppliers and journal entries for 11 schools. 
•    Streamlining the accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, to create more efficiencies. 
•    Reporting on Service Level Agreements to schools. 

Lead Internal & External Audits  
•    Responsibility for preparation of the Company Annual and Interim Reports US GAAP and IFRS including full interaction with external audit teams.
•    Drives Compliance with NAE Accounting Policy | DOA 
•    GAAP & IFRS Compliance 
•    Ensuring compliance of accounting policies and procedures within business units.
Liaison with Schools on Controls Framework and serves as the primary Group Accounting Contact
•    Leading compliance of new schools accounting with group accounting policies.
•    Work with Group FC to align and enhance and standardise financial reports
•    Ensure all reporting deliverables are sent on time and in the correct format for both month end, actual and quarterly reporting.
 
Required Skills/Abilities
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years' experience in a high-pressured financial environment and will be strong in 3 key areas: 
1. they will be technically excellent 
2. they will possess the gravitas to drive change and thrive in a high-pressure environment, 
3. have relevant experience leading a shared service accounting function dealing with multi-jurisdictional and Spanish speaking businesses.

Role Requirements include: 
•    Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
•    Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred.
•    Minimum of 8 years of experience in financial management, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
•    Strong knowledge of financial principles, accounting standards, and financial analysis techniques.
•    IFRS and US GAAP 
•    Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
•    Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
•    Highly analytical
•    Advance Excel skills
•    Ability to “think out of the box” and create from scratch
•    Experience in collaborating with stakeholders at all levels throughout an organisation 
•    Experience in the for-profit education sector is a plus.
•    Spanish language proficiency

Regional accountants based in Miami, focusing on month-end closure and delegation of tasks.
Experience with auditors, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and automated entries. 
Familiarity with AP/AR and financial data management for 15 entities across the Americas, particularly in LATAM. 
Specializing in large-scale balance sheet reconciliations and managing challenges like medical and payroll reconciliation. 
Long-term goal of achieving successful audits and enhancing financial growth.

Key Qualifications:
Leadership: Demonstrated 3 years of leadership experience.
Accounting Expertise: Strong understanding of GAAP & IFRS compliance, with proficiency in accruals, AR/AP, and balance sheet reconciliation.
Industry Knowledge: Preferably in education, hospitality, or multi-entity environments.
Technical Skills: Experience with ERP systems like Business Central, MS Dynamics, and OneStream. Integration experience is valued.
